Christmas is for kids! No one gets more excited over the mystery and magic of Christmas than little kids.
Giggles erupt and faces light up with wide-eyed awe at the first glimpse of Santa Claus, the twinkling lights on the Christmas tree, and the presents beneath.
If only we could all go back in time to the pure innocence and complete belief in Christmas magic, but that is a gift bestowed only upon young children. And the young children of Community Child Care Center in Norway were more than willing to share some of their thoughts about the holiday.
Santa’s visit and the toys he will leave are the top things on the minds of the 4- and 5-year-olds in head teacher Carlene St. Onge’s class.
“I like Christmas because of Santa Claus and toys,” exclaimed Nathan Kimball. “And I hope I get Indiana Jones Legos.”
Evan Hamm is happy about Christmas because, “I get to see my Grandma and Nana and I hope Santa brings me a robot with remote control.”
“I help decorate the Christmas tree and put lights on it too,” said Jayden Langelier. “That’s what I like about Christmas.”
Christmas cookies for Santa are very much on the minds of these youngsters as well.
Brooklynn Manson said, “I love the Christmas cooking and I help make cookies and put frosting and sprinkles on them and we put cookies in presents, too.”
Sara Davis helps make Christmas cookies, too. “I put them in the oven and put frosting on them all by myself and I bring them to school and we all eat them up.”
Ashlynn Dailey is looking forward to Santa’s visit and plans to feed him well. “I leave him cake and cookies and milk.”
“I’m going to have strawberry cookies and put sprinkles on them,” said Ella Pelletier. “And I’ll eat them with Teagan and Mommy and Daddy.”
Kassidy Andrews plans to leave cookies and milk for Santa as well. “I’ll give him cookies and a little milk in a cup, it has a crack in it. I hope he brings me Legos.”
“I’m going to go with Daddy to get the Christmas tree,” exclaimed Austin McConkey. “It will go all the way up to the roof, but it won’t hurt the roof. We put little candy things on the tree, but you can’t eat them.”
“I hope I get a scooter from Santa,” said Sophie Billings. “Daddy and Ryan will help me with it.”
All the kids said they would go to bed early on Christmas Eve, apparently with visions of toys and cookies dancing in their heads.
“Santa is going to have to be very quiet,” explained Sara Davis, “so he won’t wake Mommy and Daddy because they sleep downstairs, and so he won’t wake us kids and, oh yeah, the cat, too.”
