NORWAY — The Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary 82 meeting for November was held with Joyce Clifford presiding.

A celebration of the auxiliary’s 91st birthday was held, with the men serving a roast pork supper, co-chaired by Ernest Clifford and Ralph Moulton with help from their wives.

Members voted on following donations: Christmas for military children, Androscoggin Home Health, Ronald McDonald House and Long Creek Youth Center. Barbara Henley will work with the National Guard and other services that help families in military.

The unit will remember post veterans who are shut in at home or in nursing homes. Beulah Ayer will visit unit members who are shut in or in nursing homes and she will present them with gifts.

Ellen Snow reported that she has donated items to Mitizi Sequoia of Community Services and National Guard Families Services.

Henley reported her trip to Guy E. Rowe School for Veterans Day. Dennis Bowden, a retired Marine, visited in uniform and talked to the second-graders. A video was shown about Veterans Day.

The unit voted to work with the Legion and National Guard on a lawn sale next summer at the Norway Armory.

Henley, education chairwoman, is working on a scholarship for Oxford Hills students.

There are many scholarships that are not given out, as no one applies for them. Juniors and seniors should check them out at the high school library or Norway Memorial Library, Henley said.
