PARIS — A Norway man was indicted Friday on sexual assault charges.
David McDaniels, 50, was indicted on four counts of gross sexual assault, a Class A crime. The assaults were reported in August to the Norway Police Department by the alleged victim.
Norway Police Detective Gary Hill said the charges came up in the department’s investigation of another claim, this one resulting in unlawful sexual touching and assault charges. The four assault charges stem from events that allegedly occurred in 2005.
“As a result of an incident that occurred on Aug. 14 with an underage female,” Hill said, “during the course of our investigation is was disclosed that another underage female disclosed earlier events.”
Hill said the unlawful sexual touching and assault charges were considered misdemeanor charges and that McDaniels had already received a summons.
Each count of gross sexual assault is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
