PARIS — An Oxford man was indicted Friday on charges of aggravated trafficking of crack cocaine. A 9 mm pistol in the same bag as the cocaine was seized, elevating the severity of the offense.

Maxie M. Jenkins, 32, was indicted on aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, a Class A offense punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

According to a report by Lt. Michael Ward of the Oxford Police Department, Jenkins’ wife Gloria called the police on Oct. 18 and reported her husband had a duffel bag containing crack cocaine and a handgun.

Ward and officer James Richardson responded to the call, where they found 70 grams of crack cocaine and a 9 mm Ruger handgun in the bag. Jenkins’ son said the bag belonged to his father, but that he stored his video games there.

Agent Zane Loper of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency had the substance tested. It came back as cocaine.

Jenkins had been arrested the previous night, Dec. 17, and charged with domestic assault.
