MEXICO — While many schools may have traditional circular wreaths gracing the entrances to their buildings, Meroby Elementary School has something a bit different and maybe a little more appropriate.
A 5-foot-diameter peace sign wreath, made from real evergreen tips and created by some of the school’s students, really catches the eye of anyone who enters the school.
“We want to bring peace to our school and to the world,” said fourth-grader Jacob Blanchard of Rumford, who helped create the wreath with tips from trees grown at the Peru home of fourth-grade teacher Kim Fuller. “It was a lot of fun.”
Kenedi Arsenault, a first-grader from Mexico, also liked the wreath and the reading assignments that went with it.
For the past few weeks, first-grade teacher Katie Nolette said first-graders have read to fourth-graders, and fourth-graders have read to first-graders on such topics as selfishness, peace and other seasonally appropriate themes.
The wreath at the school’s main entrance will likely be on display until children return to school on Jan. 3. The last day of classes before the Christmas break is Wednesday.
