LEWISTON — Photographs taken by Michael McAllister of Vans Warped Tour Twenty Ten, a touring musical festival — including images of Poland rock band Sparks The Rescue — will be exhibited at She Doesn’t Like Guthries throughout January.
An opening reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, at the restaurant/cafe at 115 Middle St. Admission is free.
As part of the Warped Tour, about 70 bands that perform on eight stages travel at night, setting up daily in different cities across the United States and Canada over a two-month period in summer.
McAllister, who was issued a VIP pass allowing him access to all festival areas, took about 3,500 photographs during two days in Houston and Dallas. Of these, he selected close to 100 to be showcased and sold for $20 each.
Members of Sparks The Rescue, which has signed with Fearless Records, will be present and play an acoustic show at the opening event. As part of their performance, they will share stories and recollections of their experiences on the tour.
A photographer from Poland, McAllister enjoys documenting events and experiences. He said he found the Warped Tour overwhelming, something that caught him by surprise. Hoping to overpower the viewer and, thus, capture that sentiment, he chose to “wallpaper” the walls at Guthries.
His photographs, primarily black and white with a select few in color, range from the curious to the bizarre.
