TAMPA, FLA. — Wayne L. Sweatt, 85, of 8414 Fenwick Avenue, died Thursday, Dec. 9, at home following a brief illness.

He was born in Rumford on Sept. 4, 1925, the son of Verle L. and Lilla (MacLennan) Sweatt.

He was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1943, and of Bates College. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Wayne was employed by National Biscuit Company as a research chemist; was associated for many years with the Salvation Army, both in New Jersey and Florida, having moved to Tampa following retirement.

He is survived by his brothers, Glynn V. Sweatt, of La Jolla, Calif, and Dale M. Sweatt and wife, Carol, of Peru; two nieces, Lilla Sweatt, of California and Valerie Provencher, of Peru; and by two grandnieces, Jessica, of Rumford and Kayla, of Peru.

He was predeceased by his parents.
