AUBURN —Ruth M. Hurd Berry of Sabattus, died on Dec. 21, at the Hospice House in Auburn.
She was born on Feb. 20, 1915, the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth Hoyle Carville in Lisbon Falls.
In January 1934 she married Delmar Hurd who passed away in January 1979. She married Roy Berry in February 1982 who passed away in 2001.
Ruth was able to out-work many right through her retirement years. She was employed at both the Farnsworth and Worumbo Woolen Mills as well as area nursing homes and as a school bus driver through her earlier years. In her spare time, she enjoyed fencing and haying along with working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Once she retired, she remained as busy as before continuing with her hobbies of gardening, fencing, haying and sewing, gaining local notoriety for all. She was one of a kind.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Mary Hurd of Sabattus; her stepdaughter, Colleen Patterson of Manchester; and sisters, Dorothy Walker, Edna Foote and Florence Brewer; three grandchildren; four stepgrandsons; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by twin daughters at birth; a stepdaughter, Darlene Rodzen; five brothers, Linwood, Willard, Clarence, Lester and Albert Carville; three sisters, Gertrude Pillsbury, Eva Pillsbury and Geneva Hartford; and one grand-daughter, Wanda Hurd.
