BAYONET POINT, Fla. — Irene (Tanguay) Roy, 66, of Spring Hill, FL., formerly of Raymond, passed away on Dec. 16, surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.

She was born in Lewiston on August 16, 1944, a daughter of Albert and Yvonne (Dulac) Tanguay. She attended local schools prior to joining the workforce. She worked at several occupations, the most recent employers being Roy’s Driving School for approximately 10 years, then the Maine Turnpike Authority for the following 10 years.

On August 12, 1967, she married the love of her life, Omer Roy, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lewiston. Together they worked and raised their daughter, Kim, in Raymond, and resided there for 28 years prior to retiring to Florida.

Irene was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Sabattus, the Montagnard Snowshoe Club and in her younger years was a member of the local Roller Skating Club at the Rollerdrome in Auburn. She loved traveling, enjoyed gambling at the slot machines and playing cards. She organized a cribbage league in New Port Richey, Fla. She was known as a “social butterfly” who loved conversing with everyone she met.

Irene is survived by her husband of 43 years, Omer Roy; her daughter, Kim Kunkel, and her husband Peter of Scarborough; and grandaughter Yvonne Sophie Kunkel. Her remaining siblings are her brother Robert Tanguay, and two sisters, Cecile Sampson and Doris Pelletier, all of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Roland, Armand and Antonio Tanguay; and her sisters, Gilberte Tanguay and Jeannine Bellavance.
