LEWISTON — Hazel I. (James) Powers of Sabattus passed away peacefully on Dec. 24, at d’ Youville Pavilion. Hazel was the widow of James (Chick) A. Powers Sr., who passed away in May of this year.
She was born on April 17, 1918, in Stamford, Conn., the daughter of the late Andrew M. James Sr. and Hazel I. (Storms) James and had resided in Westport, Conn., for many years before moving to Sabattus in 1995. She loved doing many different types of crafts, gardening, tag-saling and spending time with her friends and family. She was a longtime member of the Fairfield Emblem Club in Fairfield, Conn.
She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Muriel D. Knight of Lewiston, Thomas R. Fern Jr. and his companion, Debra Hubur, of Putnam, Conn., and James A. Powers Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Sabattus; her six grandchildren, Kim Knight Masse and her husband, Raymond, of Lewiston, Richard C. Knight and his wife, Mary, of Leeds, Thomas R. Fern Jr. and his wife, Noelle, of Norwalk, Conn., Patrick Fern of Enfield, Conn., Julianne Powers Kolbe and her husband, Alex, of Sabattus and Amanda Powers of Sabattus; her nine great-grandchildren, Ray Masse, Brett Masse and her fiance, Travys Fecteau and Drew Masse, all of Lewiston, Kurt, Katherine, Kyle, Kevin and Kade Knight, all of Leeds and Violette Fern of Putnam, Conn.; one great-great-grandson, Mathieu Knight of Leeds; her sister, Eunice Robling of Danville, Va.; her sister-in-law, Ann (Mrs. Andrew) James of Westport, Conn.; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her son-in-law, Gilbert R. Knight Sr.; her brothers, Andrew M. James Jr. and George James; her sister, Muriel James; and her brothers-in-law, Thomas M. Powers and his wife, Helen and George Powers and his wife, Jinx.
