LEWISTON — In Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” a pair of star-crossed lovers take their lives. With their deaths, this tragic and romantic story ends.
Or does it?
Lewiston High School’s Centre Stage Ensemble will present “After Juliet,” a story by Scottish playwright Sharman Macdonald that illuminates the chaos and romance that follows the death of the two lovers.
Haunted by the death of her beloved Romeo, Rosaline (played by Sarah Patterson) is overcome with feelings of hatred and woe, and seeks revenge on the Montague family. Benvolio (Scott Gagne), a Montague and Romeo’s cousin, begins to fall in love with her, which she resists.
Through twists and turns, the audience will meet the seizure prone Bianca (Zan Wong); Bianca’s sister, Helena (Veronica Beaudoin); a flutist, Rhona (Marina Belanger); Alice (Taylor Roy); Angelica (Alicia Ouellette); Petruchio (Chris Belanger); and two characters who provide comic relief, Lorenzo (David Carvalho) and Gianni (Daniel Fortier).
“After Juliet” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 6-8, at Lewiston Middle School. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens.
