The latest change by the Sun Journal to require identification of those posting comments on its website is sorely needed and long overdue. The anonymous nature of postings has contributed to many inaccuracies and misinformation to those who truly want to form opinions based on facts.

Many good people have been harmed from erroneous and malicious comments and may never fully recover their reputations.

I have stopped reading the comments at the end of new stories because of the lack of respect shown when opinions differ. Name-calling has not helped in articulating points and has steered the conversation away from its intent.

Hopefully the new policy will shower the public with informed opinions that are maturely thought out and not based on innuendo and hearsay.

There are many problems that need resolution; those require the best minds and brightest ideas that can be found.
