Church activities
SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner is starting off 2011 with lots of activities. On Saturday, Jan. 1, there will be a meatloaf supper at 5:30 p.m. to benefit Haiti Outreach Ministries.
Bill Glass will give a presentation on Haiti and the Ministries following the meal. He and his wife, Linda, have recently been to Haiti and are involved in HOM.
The community is invited to the movie, “What if?,” on Saturday, Jan. 8. Admission is free and refreshments will be sold. There will be a service to celebrate freedom at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15.
The Rev. Howard MacMullen will begin his ministry with the church on Sunday, Jan. 9. For more information, call Bill or Linda at 388-2263.
Auxiliary supper
PARIS — The Paris Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the fire station on Western Avenue. The price for adults is $8, for ages 4 to 12, $4, and ages 3 and under, free.
Seniors to meet
BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will gather at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Funky Red Barn for a meeting and luncheon.
Reservations must be made before noon Monday, Jan. 10, by calling Caroline Gould at 824-2877. The price of dinner is $10. The menu will include stuffed haddock. Membership fees are due at the meeting. New members are always welcome.
Gardener class
PARIS — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is once again offering its master gardener volunteer training.
“The master gardener course is a fun way for gardeners to learn the science of gardening and then use that knowledge to grow and donate food to the community,” said Barbara Murphy, Extension educator and coordinator of the training.
The training will focus on ornamental horticulture – landscape design, trees and shrubs, annuals and perennials as well as botany, soil science and pest management.
The course will be offered at the Extension office from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays starting Feb. 3. Class size is limited. For an application, call the Extension office at 1-800-287-1482 or 743-6329.
