WILTON — St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is hosting its annual Boar’s Head Feast at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7.
The feast combines several seasonal traditions, including the celebration of the Feast of the Epiphany (the arrival of the three kings) and the victory of light over darkness (thus, the theme of Boar’s Head).
The wild boar was public enemy #1 in old England, and peasants feared their attack. The wild boar was slain, as the story goes, by a young chorister who smacked the boar on the head with a book by Socrates, thus vanquishing evil and bringing enlightenment by his actions.
The feast will include a roast pork dinner with all the trimmings, (a vegetarian meal is available by request). In addition, revelers will enjoy medieval music, drama and song in the style of old England. Costumes are encouraged but not required.
The cost is $15 for adults and $8 for children. Proceeds will benefit the Ecumenical Heating Assistance Fund. Tickets are available at the Calico Patch in Farmington or by calling the royal ticketkeeper at 778-1164. Last year sold out.
