LEWISTON — Common Ties Mental Health Services recently honored Sen. Margaret Craven of Lewiston with the Kelsey Award for Quality and Excellence.

Craven was recognized for her exceptional contributions to citizens who are in recovery from a mental health Illness. Whether during her years as a group home administrator with the Murphy Homes or in the state legislature, the needs of persons who have a disability have been close to her heart.

The award presentation was made at the 25th anniversary annual celebration of Common Ties Mental Health Services, held at the Green Ladle Restaurant.

Katy Sperl, Common Ties board president, said, “Margaret, you are an excellent choice for the award because you are very much like Kelsey, both outstanding women of Lewiston who have crossed generations to bring hope to people and their families who experience a disability. You are admired by many, you have inspired our community. You represent all of the virtues and values of our founder, Kelsey Orestis. We congratulate and thank you and acknowledge your work with the 2010 Kelsey Award for Quality and Excellence.”
