STRONG — County Commissioner-elect and Selectman Clyde Barker was honored for his service at his last meeting Tuesday.
State Sen. Tom Saviello, R-Wilton, and state Rep. Russell Black, R-Wilton, presented Barker with a legislative sentiment at a reception after the meeting. Selectmen also offered their appreciation.
“Tonight is Clyde’s last meeting with us around this table, and I’d like to thank him on behalf of the town and this board for his service,” Chairman Milton Baston said, presenting Barker with a plaque.
Barker served several terms as a selectman and has been active in many community service organizations. He is president of the newly-formed Phillips-Strong Lions Club chapter. He has been a member of the Franklin County Firemen’s Association and the Federal Emergency Management Administration’s municipal coordination, a member of local ATV and snowmobile clubs, local Grange chapters and the Knights of Pythias.
He coasted to victory in 14 of county commission District 3’s 16 towns in the November election, losing only the towns of Carrabassett Valley and Weld, to become county commissioner for the next three years. He will continue to serve in his appointed position as a Franklin County Sheriff’s Department civil deputy.
Barker, 70, will be sworn in Jan. 6, replacing Meldon Gilmore of Freeman Township.
