DIXFIELD — The McGouldrick Park skating rink is ready for use now that the sun is a little warmer and the snow has been cleared.
This year, the Dixfield Public Works Department will oversee the operation of the 80-by-200-foot rink complete with hockey nets on both ends.
Public Works Foreman David Phair said the town-owned rink, located off Dix Avenue, is open seven days a week from about 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The warming hut is also open for skaters to put on and take off their skates.
Selectmen approved the Public Works’ responsibility for the rink at a recent board meeting. Prior to this year, two local residents were hired part-time to care for the rink. But because they were unable to continue, the job became one for Public Works.
The rink is set up for use by both hockey enthusiasts and recreational skaters.
Right now, the rink is not supervised. Public Works employees open the gate to the rink in the morning, and Phair said he expects a member of the Dixfield Police Department to lock it at night.
The park also includes a playground for children and public boat access to the Webb River.
