SANFORD — Jacqueline A. Melanson, 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Newton Center. She had made her residence on Whitman Street in Mexico for many years.

She was born in Berlin, N.H., on April 3, 1916, the daughter of Alphonse and Theodeline (Thibeault) Hache, and attended Rumford schools.

Jacqueline was a Communicant of St. Athanasius – St. John Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed the comforts of her home and was well-known for her baking.

She was married in Rumford on Jan. 14, 1946, to Alcide J. “Jack” Melanson, who died in Canton on June 19, 2006.

Survivors include her daughter, Michele Griner of Sanford; son, Albert Melanson, and wife Debbie of Rumford; grandchildren Cory, Jennifer and her fiancé Ken McAllister, Jason Melanson and his wife Sarah of Portland and Stacy Griner of Sanford; sisters, Simone Joyce of Cape Elizabeth, Martha Bartlett of Auburn and Joan Peabody of Portsmouth, N.H.

She was predeceased by a brother, The Rev. Monsignor Edmond Hache; and sisters, Germaine Therrien and Theresa Brumby.
