AUBURN — Richard A. Greaton died Thursday, Dec. 28, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He resided in Poland Spring with his German shepard, Nikko, and had been recently admitted a third time to the Hospice House in Auburn.
He served on the Auburn Police Department and had also served as police chief of Dixfield; then, between and after police work, became a long-haul trucker across the U.S. and Canada.
Survivors include seven daughters, Sandra Greaton and fiance, Burt St. Amand, Linda Pelletier, Jacqueline Bartlett, Pauline Gudas and husband, David, Diane Conklin and husband, Larry, Peggy Sue Auger and husband, Lucien, Darlene Labonte and husband, Paul; two sons, Duane Greaton and Darin Greaton; three sisters, Shirley Hunt and husband, John, Barbara Shaw and husband, Charles and Connie Robinson and husband, Thomas; two brothers, Robert Greaton and Allen Greaton; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, William Greaton, Jr. and Philip Greaton; as well as a sister, Becky Leonard.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for all the great care he received during the many days he was an inpatient.
