LEWISTON — La Rencontre will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St.
The meal will include chicken pot pie, biscuits, dessert and beverage. The cost of the meal is $7 a person. After the meal, patrons will be entertained by mezzo-soprano and Buckfield native, Kelly Davis.
Patrons are encouraged to speak only French during the two-hour meal in the newly-renovated Heritage Hall followed by entertainment in the performance hall.
Davis is a seventh-semester vocal performance major at the University of Connecticut. Upcoming performances include Davis as Melissa in the Simsbury Light Opera Company’s production of “Princess Ida” as well as Madame Kirsten in “The Beautiful Bridegroom” with UConn Opera.
The Maine native has been featured in master classes with Maestro Willie Anthony Waters, Dr. Sylvia McClain and Dr. Jeffrey McEvoy.
While at the University of Connecticut, Davis has performed as a soloist with the early music group, Collegium Musicum, with the University of Connecticut Concert Choir and the University of Connecticut Women’s Choir.
Internationally, Davis’ work has taken her to Graz, Austria, in 2010, where she worked with the American Institute of Musical Studies Opera Studio. She also performed in a master class with soprano Garbriele Lechner.
In 2009, Davis made her Lincoln Center debut with the UConn Opera Theater’s production of “Riders to the Sea.” She was a 2009 winner of the Anne Gannet Scholarship Competition, sponsored by the Maine Federation of Music Clubs.
