RUMFORD – Marie B. Doucette, 87, of Cumberland Street, died Saturday, Jan. 1., at her residence with her loving family at her side, following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born in Caraquet, N.B., on Dec. 8, 1923, a daughter of William and Alice (Parise) Blanchard.
Marie was employed in Bridgeport Conn., at Remington Arms, making bandoliers for the servicemen during World War II.
She later went to work for Diamond Match Co. for 20 years where she served as a shop steward.
Marie was a faithful communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. She enjoyed her daily trips to her sons’ camp at Worthley Pond with her sister Sylvia and her nieces. She also enjoyed her weekly poker games with her family and friends, cribbage at the Eagles, Legion and the church and her occasional trips to Hollywood Slots.
She will be remembered as a kind, caring, compassionate, generous, feisty and loving sister, mom, grandmother and great grandmother.
Marie took pride in being the boss. We will miss her terribly, but do understand she is now at peace with our Lord.
Surviving are her children, Sandra Pomerleau and husband, Eddie, of Rumford, Raymond Doucette and wife, Bonnie, of Whiting, N.J., Pearl Snowman and husband, Larry, of Peru and Lee Doucette and wife, Brenda, of Peru; a sister, Sylvia Fontaine of Rumford; eight grandchildren, Tim, Mark, Lisa, Kara, Stephanie, Dawn, Andrew and Katie; and seven great-grandchildren, Casey, Kelly, Chandler, MacKenzie, Carson, Madison and Rae Lynn.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Frank; two sisters, Germaine Dorion and Toni Slabi; three brothers, Lucien, Paul and Henry Blanchard; a grandson, Harry Doucette; and a great-grandson, Mitchell Ryan Redmond.
