DIXFIELD — A 47-year-old Dixfield man was charged Saturday afternoon with breaking into a Taylor Road home and taking jewelry, CDs and other items.

Dixfield police Chief Richard Pickett said Gary A. Richard, who was staying at a home on Riverside Drive, was charged with felony burglary. He was released from the Dixfield Police Department on $5,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled to appear in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris on Feb. 18.

Sgt. Jeff Howe arrested Richard after investigating the break-in and following footprints in the snow. The incident is believed to have occurred in the early hours of Jan. 1. He said many of the stolen items were recovered. However, about $360 worth of jewelry has not been found.

Richard’s release is contingent upon a number of conditions, including not using or possessing alcoholic beverages, not contacting the victim and family, not possessing dangerous weapons, having substance abuse counseling, and reporting to the Dixfield Police Department once a week.
