BERLIN, N.H. — The community will come together at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Main and High streets, to celebrate the Feast of the Three Kings, known as Epiphany, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6.

The 12 days of Christmas, officially ended, the service is planned around the visit of the three kings to the nativity scene in Bethlehem. Many pieces of music have been written to commemorate the event.

Organist/composer David Dahl, Tacoma, Wash., who was featured in a concert at St. Barnabas last fall, has written and recently sent a new set of variations to be used in the service during the opening hymn, “As with Gladness Men of Old.”

In addition, baritone vocalist, Dick Conway, will sing a solo by Carissimi, accompanied by cello and a small Olympic portable pipe organ built by Dahl and newly decorated with paintings by Andre Belanger.

A community choir will sing a short chorale from Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio,” an “Italian Carol of the Bagpipers” and the “Jazz Gloria” by Natalie Sleeth. Organ settings of Epiphany pieces by Max Reger, Jean Langlais and J. S. Bach will round out the musical offerings, along with the singing of favorite hymns/carols, such as “We Three Kings.”

Area ministers have planned the event and will officiate with readings and prayers. The sermon will be delivered by Richard Davenport, now serving churches in Groveton and Colebrook.
