BRUNSWICK — David Craig O’Connell, 91, of Harpswell died Dec. 28.
David C. O’Connell was born Feb. 15, 1919, in Auburn, the fifth son of seven sons to William and Mary Craig O’Connell. David was the last surviving son of the seven O’Connell brothers.
David served as a T/Sergeant in Company H, 103 Army Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater from Oct. 1, 1942 to May 9, 1945, when he was critically wounded in combat.
David loved his family, who spent a lot of quality time listening to oral history that he, David, had passed through and lived. He loved his old dog, Sooner, who passed just four months ahead of his devoted master. David was a super uncle, a great neighbor, and a wonderful friend to everyone who knew and loved him.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, scattered around the United States and Europe.
It is with very deep sadness that we, his family, bid a final farewell to this brave old soldier. A proud military man who served his beloved country with such distinction.
