Scholarship open
POLAND — Applications are being accepted for the Bruce M. Whittier Memorial Scholarship.
Whittier, a leading citizen of Mechanic Falls and teacher at Poland Community School for many years, was killed in an accident in the fall of 1997 when he stopped to help a motorist in trouble.
Two $1,000 scholarships for further education will be awarded this year to graduating seniors from Poland Regional High School. Applicants may apply through their high school guidance department, who will provide criteria. Applications must be received no later than April 2.
Breastfeeding support
AUBURN — Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to the La Leche League meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.
Discussion will focus on “The Advantages of Breastfeeding for Mother and Baby.” All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion. For breastfeeding help or directions to the meeting, call the La Leche League leader at 782-6645.
Farmers market
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Winter Farmers Market will be open from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, 208 Bates St.
The market is an extension of the Lewiston Farmers Market in Kennedy Park and the St. Mary’s Market at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

Donations sought
TURNER — Donations are being requested to assist Marie McCafferty of Buckfield, who lost her business, Marie’s Pet Retreat, in a fire on Dec. 22.
Jana Swengel has organized the collection of building supplies, money, towels, large plastic dog crates and other items for the business. Items can be dropped off to Swengel or Jaylene Gonyea at Richardson’s Sales, 225-3460, 1630 Auburn Road.

Bridge results
LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Dec. 14 were as follows: First, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; second, Dick Allen and Nancy Farmer; third, Linda Leotsakos and Jan Arey; fourth, Sue Kaluzynski and Roger Labbe.
Winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on Dec. 15 were: First, Anna Vitiello and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Mary Ann Trafton and Kathleen Burden.
