LEWISTON — Jacob L. Kolenz, 91, of Sabattus passed away after a short illness, Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Marshwood Facility, where he had been receiving hospice care.

He was born in Colonia, N.J., April 25, 1919, a son of the late Josef and Gussie Kolenz. After leaving high school, he worked at the family business in Avenel, N.J., until joining the Army Air Corps in 1942. As a staff sergeant stationed on the island of Trinidad, he ran a motor pool.

He married the love of his life, in Mars Hill in 1947, and they made their home and raised their family in Avenel, N.J. In the early 1960s, he moved his family to East Vassalboro and became a millwright/welder, working at Scott Paper Co. through his union, until moving back to New Jersey in 1978.

While living in Adelphia, N.J., he worked with the New Jersey Carpenters Union Local 2250 as a carpenter and taught the trades at the Monmouth County Vocational School. After retiring, he returned to his beloved state of Maine to live out his days hunting, fishing and enjoying his family.

Survivors include two daughters, Diana M. Kolenz of Sabattus and Mary E. Babcock and her husband, Earl B. Babcock, of Dresden; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; also to be remembered were his special family, Kathy Pare and her children, and Tammy Forgues.

He was predeceased by Edna Kolenz, his wife of 58 years; and his brother, Joseph.
