NEW GLOUCESTER — Local author Paul Flynn has written a book, “The Unnecessary War: A Fictional Redress,” which fictionalizes the prevention of the Civil War.
One the cover of the book is a 19th century engraving of “The Attack On Fort Sumter,” published in the book “Our Country, Vol. III.”
The back cover features a vintage engraving depicting the 1865 surrender at Appomattox, showing Robert E. Lee and Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant.
Flynn has served as an archivist, budget analyst and management engineer with the federal government. He was also a town manager in three England communities for more than 20 years.
He served with the Marines in the Pacific during World War II.
