EAST WILTON — Students from the Region 9 School of Applied Technology recently completed a community service project for Western Maine Community Action.

The agency, which provides Health, WIC and Career Center Services in Oxford County, participated in Christmas parades in Oxford Hills and Rumford. The Region 9 students prepared bags with agency information and treats to be handed out to the parade viewers.

The school prepares students for entering the world of work, with classes in automotive, building construction and nursing.

“We believe the best way to learn is by doing,” said Jen Barlow, an instructor at Region 9. “Many local businesses host our students for training purposes. It is an important part of their education to give back to the community that is so generous to Region 9.”
