MEXICO — As part of the Mexico Library’s “Wonderful Wednesdays” after-school programming for kids ages 2 to 10, the library will host a winter incentive reading program, “Chill Out and Read!,” which will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 26, and run through Wednesday, March 2.
Kids are invited to visit the Calvin Lyons Hall, next door to the library, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 26 and hear about “Chill Out and Read!,” sign up for it, share a story or two, play games and have winter treats.
From that date on, participants will begin to “Chill Out and Read!” Children who would like to take part in the program, but can not attend the party on Jan. 26, should contact the library on or after that date.
During “Chill Out and Read!” for every two hours that kids ages 2 to 5 spend reading or being read to, they will earn a prize of their choice.
For every three hours that kids ages 6 to 10 spend reading or being read to, they also will earn a prize of their choice.
Prizes will include a choice of books for their age/reading level, movie passes, roller skating at the Mexico Recreation Building, and other treats.
Also for every two hours a child age 2 to 4 reads and for every three hours a child age 6 to 10 reads, they may enter a ticket for a prize drawing. The winning ticket will be drawn at the conclusion of the “Chill Out and Read!” program.
Participants will celebrate their “Chill Out and Read!” reading accomplishments from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2.
The winter reading incentive program is for adults too. For every book that adult readers read/finish during the duration for the five-week program, they are eligible to enter a drawing for a gift.
Readers will fill out a ticket at the circulation desk with name, phone number and book title. Two drawings will be held: Feb. 9 and March 2. Winners will be called.
