LIVERMORE FALLS — Interim Town Manager Kristal Flagg of Livermore Falls has accepted the position of town manager, select board Chairman Bill Demaray said Tuesday.
Selectmen met with Flagg on Monday night and agreed to offer her the position, he said. The board was expected to confirm hiring her on Tuesday but the selectmen’s meeting was postponed due to snow and has been rescheduled to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at the town office.
Flagg will continue as town clerk and treasurer, a position she has held for nearly 23 years, and do the town manager’s duties until June 30, she said Tuesday.
She will then switch over to full-time town manager on July 1, she said.
She will be paid an additional $500 a week on top of her treasurer, town clerk salary.
Flagg has been making an additional $250 a week as interim town manager since late November when former Town Manager Jim Chaousis left for another position.
Flagg was among 35 applicants for the town manager position.
“The board felt that she was the best person for the position with her knowledge and long-term employment with the town, that she could do the job, and hopefully we will have a long-term town manager and not just someone for a couple of years,” Demaray said.
Consultant Mike Wing who was hired to assist the board in the hiring process, is drawing up the agreements, Demaray said. “Once selectmen get them and agree with them they will vote at the next meeting to officially hire her.”
Flagg and her husband of nearly 33 years, Russell Flagg, have three married sons, she said.
She is also a licensed massage therapist.
“I care about the town,” Kristal Flagg said about seeking the job. “I think there are a lot of exciting things that will be coming our way and I want to be part of it.”
