LEWISTON — USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College announces two new scholarships that will help area students afford college. The President’s Lewiston-Auburn College Scholarship and the Community Banks of Androscoggin County Scholarship were both established to help students afford a public university education.

The President’s Scholarship will award one incoming full-time freshman or transfer student, who is pursuing their first baccalaureate degree at USM LAC, a $5,000 scholarship. The scholarship may be renewable for up to three years. The scholarship is funded with contributions from members of USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College Advisory Board.

The Community Banks Scholarship was established by Androscoggin Bank, Auburn Savings Bank and Mechanics Savings Bank, which will match dollar-for-dollar up to $24,000 in community donations. On a pooled basis, the scholarship fund will generate up to $48,000 in support of Androscoggin County students who attend USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College on a full-time basis. The funds will provide 12 scholarships of $1,000 each a year for four years.

The deadline for the submission of applications is Feb. 28. For complete information and criteria for applying, contact Jim Bradley at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College at 753-6618 or e-mail [email protected].
