KINGFIELD — Voters will have six articles to approve at a special town meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at Webster Hall.

The Quad Runners ATV club hopes for approval to use Routes 27 and 142 to connect two established, approved ATV club trails and complete a loop from Kingfield through Carrabassett Valley, Eustis, Rangeley, Madrid, Phillips, Strong and back to Kingfield, club Vice President Dave Trenholm said.

The trail connection would be between the Kingfield Sewer District and snowmobile club sled shed, down to the end of Depot Street and across from New England Wire. If the request is approved, state and club signs would be erected to mark the locations, Trenholm said.

Voters will be asked to appropriate up to $32,500 to pay off the new Kingfield wastewater treatment plant debt approved at the 1983 annual town meeting. At the June 2010 meeting, voters authorized a payment of $18,500, but selectmen learned in August that the town still had two outstanding loans totaling $51,000. The $32,500 will pay the that balance.

Selectmen also will ask voters to approve the town’s current ordinance, Kingfield Transfer Station Solid Waste and Recycling Ordinance – 1996, to become the Kingfield-New Portland Transfer Station Solid Waste and Recycling Ordinance.

The Recreation Department has asked for authorization to use money it raises from their programs, grants and private fundraising to pay for their expenses, and voters will be asked to approve this plan.

Also, the Sugarloaf Explorer shuttle bus service needs $1,468 to pay for the rest of the 2011 winter season. Town Administrative Assistant Doug Marble said voters approved changing its fiscal year to one starting on July 1, and the full amount to pay for the annual shuttle was a budget item overlooked in the process. The shuttle service ends when Sugarloaf’s ski season ends in the spring.

Eligible voters may register during the week, Marble said, from 8:30 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. in the town office, and on the night of the meeting, starting at 5:45 p. m.
