On Jan. 25, voters in the towns of Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls will be voting on school consolidation. Those residents need to be aware that if it is voted in, Livermore and Livermore Falls will be losing a lot more money than Jay.
The cost of educating students in Jay is $1.3 million higher than Essential Program Services; the cost for RSU 36 is less than $300,000. Our town’s money from the state is ranked on this.
If a school system’s expenses are at Essential Program Services, a school system will get a certain amount; for all that a system is over, it will get a greater penalty.
Due to Jay’s overspending, RSU 36 would end up losing money from the state.
Jay wants help lowering its cost at the expense of RSU 36.
People should question whether they want higher taxes to help support Jay.
