AUBURN — A Lewiston man pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge stemming from a raid on his Omer Street home where he was cooking methamphetamine.
James Ludlow, 25, pleaded guilty in Androscoggin County Superior Court to a count of unlawful trafficking in illegal drugs.
Prosecutors agreed that Ludlow would have to serve no more than three years, but recommended he be sentenced to six years, with three years of probation, plus a $1,000 fine.
Ludlow’s lawyer is expected to seek a shorter sentence. No sentencing date was set. The Class B crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Ludlow was held in lieu of bail at Androscoggin County Jail pending sentencing. His trial had been scheduled for Wednesday.
Police clad in chemical-resistant suits and breathing through respirators converged on his apartment roughly a year ago. They found pseudoephedrine tablets, coffee filters that contained suspected methamphetamine residue, solvents and plastic bags containing small quantities of the suspected drug in his apartment.
Ludlow’s girlfriend, Pamela Connor, 27, of Lewiston also was charged in the raid. She pleaded guilty last year to attempted trafficking. Her case was to be shelved for two years during which she was required to not run afoul of the law and to abide by strict conditions that included 60 hours of public service, substance-abuse counseling and random searches. She also was ordered to stay away from Ludlow.
In November, prosecutors filed a motion to rescind her deferred disposition, saying she had violated its conditions by living with Ludlow in Lisbon.
A third defendant connected to Ludlow and Connor, Eric Merrill, 30, of Auburn pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful possession and trafficking in illegal drugs. His sentencing is expected to be addressed once he completes his time in drug court.
