AUBURN — Terrence A. Smith of Hartford passed away on Monday, Jan. 24, at the Hospice House. He was a resident of Camp Road in Hartford, where he and his wife, Regine, have resided since 1995.
He was born May 4, 1939, in Rumford, the son of Sherwood “Skish” and Bernice “Bunny” Smith, and resided in Rumford until 1995.
He graduated from Stephens High School in 1957, from Maine Central Institute in 1958, and was a member of the Class of 1960 at the University of Maine at Orono.
He was employed for 38 years at the Rumford Paper Mill having worked for Oxford Paper Co., Ethyl Corp., Boise Cascade and retiring from Mead Corp. as a product service representative in 1997. Additionally, he worked for the Maine Central Rail Road on weekends as a yard clerk in the Rumford location for several years in the 1960s.
He was involved in coaching youth basketball and baseball at the Rumford Community Center during the 1960s and 1970s — something he truly enjoyed and enjoyed watching many of the youth he coached playing at high school and college levels.
He was a master Mason and a member of Blazing Star Lodge in Rumford.
Very special times in his life were spent hunting and fishing with cherished friends in the North Maine Woods.
Surviving are his wife, Regine P. Smith; three adult sons, Jeffrey and Terry Jr. of Rumford and Wayne of Dixfield and their significant others and families; two granddaughters, Megan and Katie Smith and their mother of Hanover; he loved his granddaughters dearly; stepsons, Steve Perry of Old Town and Chris Perry and family; stepgrandsons, Tyler and Michael of Rumford.
