RANGELEY — The Rangeley Astronomy Group will hold a Star Party from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Wilhelm Reich Conference Center, off Dodge Pond Road.
The session will focus on the sun-earth-moon system and include a short lesson to better understand the motions of the heavenly bodies. Gerry Adams, retired teacher and amateur astronomer, will present lessons on astronomical events and happenings.
He will also offer explanations for phenomenon associated with the night sky and, if the weather cooperates, will conduct simple observational activities to view the dark night skies over Rangeley.
Adams will also describe telescopes and binoculars used to view the night sky if time allows. For those new to the sessions, an introduction to the winter skies over Rangeley will also be included.
The monthly sessions are sponsored by the Rangeley Regional Public Library and hosted by the Wilhelm Reich Museum.
Handouts and sky maps will be given out and an opportunity to join the Rangeley Astronomy Group e-mail newsletter will be available. Free coffee, hot chocolate and possible treats will be offered.
Those interested in attending should contact the library, museum or Adams for information: [email protected]; [email protected] or http://rangeleylibrary.com; or [email protected] or http://wilhelmreichmuseum.org
