WILTON — Police charged a local man Wednesday in connection with an accident on Depot Street last month.
Josh Ramey, 20, was issued a summons on charges of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to report a property damage accident and unsworn falsification.
Police said Ramey was traveling on Depot Street on Dec. 3 and struck a crate in the parking lot of Creative Wood Products of Maine at Union and Depot streets and left the scene. The accident caused $600 damage.
Police were called the next day. Wilton police officer Brandi Alton found several truck parts at the scene and some witnesses who pointed toward Ramey, Detective Rick Billian said.
Ramey later reported having an accident in another town, Billian said, and his blue 2004 GMC truck was sold to an insurance company. When police tracked it down, the parts found in the mill parking lot matched the truck perfectly, he said.
Before police found the truck, Ramey went to the station for an interview and wrote a statement giving police wrong information, Billian said.
Ramey is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 24.
