AUBURN — Ruby B. Morrison, 92, died Jan. 21, at her home at Schooner Estates Retirement Community.

Ruby was born in St. Albans, Dec. 9, 1918, the daughter of Fred S. and Lina (Farrar) Butler. She grew up in Ripley/St. Albans and attended local schools, graduating from N H Fay High School in Dexter in 1936. She graduated from Farmington State Normal School in 1940.

Ruby began her teaching career in Norway and Bath during the World War II years. While raising her family, she worked in a local market in Thomaston and served as librarian in the Thomaston Public Library from 1961 to 1965. She then resumed teaching at the Thomaston Middle School and completed her working career as librarian at St. George Elementary School in Tenants Harbor.

John Morrison and Ruby Butler were married in Bath on June 9, 1945, and made Thomaston their home for nearly 50 years. They relocated to Auburn in 1998. She was active in the Federated Church Women’s Group and in the Nu Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. She served for several years on the Thomaston Public Library Board, following her tenure as librarian. Ruby was an avid reader.

Survivors include a son, Schuyler and his partner, Susan Wilson, of South Windham; cousins, Lula F. Gould of Boxford, Mass., Virginia F. Ellms of Dexter, Rodney Farrar of Ripley, David Farrar of Norridgewock and Edward Farrar of Cambridge; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruby was predeceased by her husband, John in 2006; their daughter, Rosanne in 1968; and two brothers, Walter and Harold Butler.
