WELD — The fourth annual Winter Family Fun Day begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Blue State Park. Outdoor events, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, skating and a bonfire, continue until 3 p.m.
The ski trails are groomed and ready to go. Ice skating will take place on “the most beautiful outdoor skating rink in Maine,” according to Park Manager Bruce Farnham. Park staff has added water to the rink and it should be in prime condition for the weekend, he said.
A trail has been prepared for the hay ride, and there will be three snowmobile tote sleds, two of them to take sledders to the top of the sliding hill and one for rides.
Naturalist Andy Hutchinson, park manager at Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park in Freeport, will give snowshoe nature walks. Rex Turner, Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands outdoor recreation planner, will offer winter camping demonstrations. Smokey Bear also is expected to make an appearance and greet young visitors.
Admission is $1.50 for adults, ages 12 to 64, and free for all others. A hot lunch is included in the cost.
