LEEDS — A surprise party was held on Dec. 11 at the Jay AMVETS Hall for George and Nellie Hood. The event was planned by their four daughters, Sheri Leiter of Jay, Kimberly Ellis of Canton, Coralee Hood of Leeds and Rebecca Hood of Oxford.
The hall was decorated with gold and white colors to honor 50 years of marriage and a cake was made with their original wedding photo. The food was catered by their four daughters and a few friends and family. A DVD of their lives was made by their daughter, Kimberly Ellis, and was played during the celebration.
Many family and friends came to help celebrate this very special day with the couple.
Mr. Hood and the former Nellie Edwards were married Dec. 28, 1960, at the home of the late Rev. Carl Geores in Leeds. Burton and Janet Mitchell of Leeds were attendants at the ceremony.
