MECHANIC FALLS — An Auburn firefighter was arrested early Sunday morning in Mechanic Falls and charged with domestic assault after a family gathering turned rowdy, according to police.
The Mechanic Falls Police Department responded to a call at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday because of an altercation between Jacob Verrill, 31, and his brother-in-law at Verrill’s home, Patrolman Anthony Keach said. When police arrived at the home, they found Verrill had assaulted his wife. Her injuries were not serious, Keach said.
The brother-in-law was not injured.
Verrill was intoxicated at the time of the arrest, Keach said.
Auburn city personnel director Deborah Grimmig said Monday that the city is looking into the matter, but that it is too early to make further comments.
Verrill, who was released from the Androscoggin County Jail on bail Sunday, could not be reached for comment Monday.
