RUMFORD — Claudia M. Emery, 81, of Dixfield, died Friday, Jan. 28, at the Rumford Hospital in Rumford, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born at Severy Hill, Dec. 18, 1929, the daughter of Lester and Rachel (Hiltz) Averill. She attended schools in Dixfield.

On June 29, 1948, she married Ronald Emery in West Peru. They made their home in Peru. An avid gardener, she enjoyed her children and grandchildren, bird watching, and reading. She was an active member of the Ladies Extension and West Peru Baptist Church. Mrs. Emery retired from employment from Rumford Hospital.

Claudia is survived by her four children, Paula Emery of Connecticut, Ronnie Emery Jr. and wife, Mary, of Florida, John Emery and wife, Cindy, of New Hampshire, and Rosanne Palumbo and husband, Timothy, of Massachusetts; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brothers, Lester and Tom Averill from Dixfield.

She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Betty; and brother, George.

Claudia’s family would like to extend a thank-you to all of the nurses and staff of the Rumford Community Home for their care of her over the last four years.
