FARMINGTON — A malfunctioning heater sent smoke into the basement of the Old South First Congregational Church on Main Street on Monday afternoon.
“There was no damage, no fire,” Deputy Chief Clyde Ross of Farmington Fire and Rescue said.
Parishioner Kat Poulson of Farmington was in the church preparing for an evening practice of the musical group Shepherd’s Pie and smell smoke shortly before 3 p.m. It had not triggered the smoke alarms, she said.
Firefighters found the source of the smoke was a motor on a heater, Ross said.
