Boys’ Basketball
Buckfield 60, Gould 50
BETHEL — Junior Alan Hendrick netted a game high 34 points to lead Buckfield to a 60-50 victory over Gould Academy in boys basketball action.
Gould held the edge after one quarter despite Hendrick’s 11 points, 18-13. The Bucks answered with a strong second quarter taking a 31-28 lead into the half. After playing an even third, Buckfield put away the Huskies with a strong fourth quarter for the victory.
Kasey Robertson chipped in with 11 points while Austin Dooley added 10, including a trio of 3-pointers for Buckfield (5-9). Abe Bartlett and Taylor Peck-Moad paced Gould with 14 points apiece. Will Bunge added 13 points in the loss.
Rangeley 67, Calvary Chapel 52
ORRINGTON — Rangeley jumped out to a 19-12 lead in the first quarter then used fine free throw shooting down the stretch to pull away from Calvary Christian, 67-52, in boys’ basketall action Monday.
Alex Morton poured in a game-high 27 points for the Lakers (9-5). Zeke Hall added 21 points and Jordan Richard eight for Rangeley. Jeremy Miller led the Sabers (5-10) with 24 points while Colby Downs added 11.
Girls’ basketball
Dirigo 62, Telstar 23
DIXFIELD — Dirigo jumped out to a 24-point lead by halftime and coasted to a 62-23 victory over Telstar on Monday.
The Cougars (12-3) took control from the start, leading 21-7, 35-11 and 48-17 at the quarter breaks.
Hannah Knight led Dirigo (12-3) with 15 points and six assists. Paige Murphy added 12 points, five assists and five steals, while Kayla Gaudin chipped in with 10 points.
The top scorer for Telstar (0-15) was Emma Davis with six points.
Jay 37, Madison 21
JAY – Jay held Madison to only seven points through three quarters as they shut down the Bulldogs 37-21 in girls’ MVC basketball.
Jay led 10-2, 16-4, and 26-7 through each of the first three frames. Beth Moore poured in a game high 17 points for the Tigers (12-3). Alexi Deering chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds. Kirsten Wood led Madison (6-9) with 13 points.
Hebron 45, Buckfield 23
BUCKFIELD – Senior Janelle Bradish poured in a game high 20 points to help lead Hebron Academy to a 45-23 victory over Buckfield in girls’ basketball action.
Hebron scored 13 points in each of the first three periods for a commanding 39-18 lead through three quarters. Senior guard Malorie Johnson followed with 15 points including a pair from behind the arc for the Lumberjacks (7-7).
Abby Bragg led the Bucks (3-12) with six points in the loss.
Carrabec 49, Mt. Abram 46
NORTH ANSON – Melissa White ignited the Cobras offense with 11 of her 13 points in the second half as Carrabec downed Mt. Abram 49-46 in girls’ MVC basketball.
Mt. Abram had a strong second quarter taking a 26-20 lead into halftime. Carrabec responded in the third quarter cutting the lead to one before getting some key turnovers and holding on for the three point victory.
Becca Bergeron paced the Cobras (6-9) with 15 points. Bergeron also drained a pair of 3-pointers in the victory. Kara Hebert followed with 11. Mikayla Luce led the Roadrunners (5-10) with 13 points with Tori Beane followed with 12 points, all coming from four 3-point baskets in the loss.
Lisbon 33, Wiscasset 31
WISCASSET — Jessica Campbell scored 11 points, pulled down eight rebounds and made five of seven free throws in the fourth quarter to help Lisbon preserve a 33-31 win over Wiscasset in MVC girls’ basketball action Monday night.
Ali Fitzgerald chipped in with seven points and six steals for Lisbon (5-10). Mary Ellen True led Wiscaset with 11 points, whily Kayla Connors added 10 points.
Boys’ Hockey
Lewiston 10, Brunswick 0
LEWISTON – Erik Morin scored the first of his two goals just 1:14 into the game and that was all Lewiston would need as they blanked Brunswick 10-0 in boys’ class A hockey action.
John McDonough, Devon Bilodeau and Ryan Lemlin each scored first period goals for the Blue Devils who remained unbeaten at 11-0-1. Morin opened the second period with his second goal followed by Scott Ouellette and David Cusson for a 7-0 advantage after two periods.
Sam Cloutier, Desmond Gagne, and Colt Steele rounded out the scoring with third period goals. Kyle Lelmin and Patrick Deblois also had a pair of assists in the victory.
Goalies Cam Poussard and Evan Bourassa combined for seven saves in the shutout. Issac Karkos and Jason Blier shared time in net for Brunswick and stopped 40 of the 50 shots they faced in the defeat.
Men’s Basketball
UMF 61, Maine Maritime 39
FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s basketball team jumped out to a 33-21 halftime lead en-route to a 61-39 triumph over Maine Maritime Academy in NAC mens’ basketball action.
UMF scored 19 points in the first 4:16 crusing to the victory. Danny Kane led the Beavers (7-11) with 13 points followed by Ben Johnson and DJ Gerrish’s 10 points each. Gerrish also dished out a team high four assists in the victory.
Shawn Dostie led MMA with 10 points and eight rebounds while Ben Russell hauled in 11 boards for the Mariners.
CMCC 96, Unity 29
AUBURN – 14 players hit the scoring column for CMCC as the Mustangs blew past Unity College 96-29 in a Yankee Small College Conference matchup.
Bronson Drewry and Nick Hinkley led the Mustangs with 12 points each as they led wire to wire. The Mustangs (6-15) scored 52 points on 38 Unity turnovers while shooting 50% from the field. Drewry nailed four of the team’s 10 3-pointers in the victory.
Brandon Staples hit for 11 points and Russell Ford-Brown and Anevia Fuentes registered nine points apiece.
John Crowe led the Rams (2-9) with 12 points and Ben Bouchard added eight in the loss.
Women’s College Basketball
CMCC 69, Unity 24
AUBRUN – Danielle Hebert tallied 18 points, 11 steals and eight assists to power Central Maine Community College in a 69-24 Yankee Small College Conference victory over Unity College on Monday.
After managing just eight points in the opening nine minutes, Kayla Ellis and Shawna Fusco sparked a 24-3 run to close out the half. Ellis finished with a game high 19 points and six rebounds. Jamie Swart added nine points and four boards while Fusco turned in a season high eight points. The Mustangs forced 36 turnovers and outscored the Rams’ bench 33-9.
Ashley Crocker and Andrea Miller led the Rams (1-9) with four points apiece. The Mustangs remain atop the Yankee Conference with a 10-1 record.
Maine-Maritime 65, UMF 53
FARMINGTON – Katie Pushard scored 14 of her 17 points in the first half as Maine Maritime Academy knocked off the University of Maine at Farmington 65-39 in NAC women’s basketball.
Pushard nailed four 3-point baskets for the Mariners who shot 60% from the arc. Maddie Smith also tallied 17 points in the victory.
UMF cut the lead in the second half to 54-49 but a 7-2 spurt from the Mariners put the game back at 10 points with under 3 minutes remaining. The Beavers were held without a basket in the final 3:48 as Maine Maritime pulled away for the win.
UMF (7-10) was paced by Paige Saunders’ 11 points. Ashley Busque and Kenni Norton each added 10 points while Holly Oliver added seven points and eight rebounds in the loss.
