Last week’s results:

Stormy and the Farmer’s Almanac were spot-on.

They both predicted that Jan. 29th would be a good day for window washing. The day had zero precipitation and hit an above-average high of 30 degrees, according to the Weather Underground.

Were Punxsutawney Phil to visit Maine on Saturday after being roused from his slumber, how would you suggest he dress?

The choices: 1) Brrr! Throw on an extra faux-fur, he’s going to need it. 2) Mild weather ahead, consider trimming that coat. 3) It’ll be average with a high just below freezing, so Phil, come as you are.

The food: Apples.

The Farmers’ Almanac says: Add that extra layer. “Fair, much colder.”

Stormy says: Ditto. Brr! Throw on an extra faux-fir.

Stormy’s Furcast is a winter-long series testing the weather predictions of the good-natured folks at the nearly-200-year-old Farmers’ Almanac against an equally good-natured fox who lives at the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray. The almanac is based on science and secret formulas. The fox makes her pick choosing from three piles of food, appropriately labeled. Each week, a new question and the previous week’s results. May the best forecaster, or furcaster, win.
