BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Arts Council will present a romantic evening of chamber music on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the McLaughlin Science Center on the Gould Academy campus.

Dan Perkins, professor of music at Plymouth State University, invited four friends to join him in performances of masterpieces in piano quintet repertoire, Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F minor and Amy Beach’s Piano Quintet in F# minor.

The soaring, passionate melodies of Brahms are answered by Beach, who modeled her quintet on Brahms. Beach, who lived and worked in Portsmouth, N.H., is one of the most prolific and influential women composers of the early 20th century.

Joining Perkins will be violinist Ella Gray, Perkins’ orchestral concertmaster and a longtime member of the New Hampshire Music Festival; violinist Sasha Callahan and her husband, cellist Leo Eguchi, Boston area musicians who also play with the New Hampshire Music Festival; and violist Daniel Dona, a Boston area artist and active teacher.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Trustees Auditorium. Tickets at $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and children 12 and younger. For reservations, call 824-3575 or e-mail info@mahoosucarts.org.
