CUMBERLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine State Police say a vehicle that abruptly stopped in the passing lane set off three accidents on Interstate 295 during the morning commute.

No one was injured.

Police say the vehicle swerved and then came to a stop in the southbound passing lane in Cumberland around 7:50 a.m. Friday. That set off a three-car accident and a two two-car accidents behind it.

Police say the erratic driver left the scene.

The Portland Press Herald says the other vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Police say speed and following too closely contributed to the crashes.
