LISBON — The Lisbon Police Department Citizens Police Academy will be in session March 2 to May 11.

Classes will be taught by Lisbon officers and held Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Police Department at 300 Lisbon St.

The academy provides an opportunity for residents to learn about all facets of law enforcement and be introduced to the many department operations. Topics include overview of the criminal justice system, law enforcement ethics, criminal law, investigations, patrol procedures, communications, drug enforcement and education and K-9 program.

Students will be scheduled to ride with a police officer and have the opportunity to meet with the chief and staff members.

The department hopes there will be a greater awareness and understanding of law enforcement’s role in the community through the education provided by the academy.

Applicants must:

* Live or work in Lisbon and/or the surrounding area.

* Have no felony convictions.

* Have no misdemeanor arrests within a year of application.

Any of these requirements may be waived upon review of the chief.
