FARMINGTON — Cupid’s arrow has struck several downtown businesses, leaving prizes for young children to collect Saturday.

Children ages 10 and under, accompanied by adults, are invited to a Cupid’s Children’s Collection Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in participating downtown businesses.

Starting at the Post Office, children will decorate a Valentine bag and enjoy some light refreshments with Postmaster Susan Jones. Then, they and adults can walk around the downtown area, shop and visit with participating merchants, said Beth Beaudoin, an event organizer for the sponsor, Farmington Downtown Association.

The children will know which businesses are participating by a heart marked Cupid Stop placed on doors. Committee members have bought small prizes and special items for boys and girls to add to their bags. It was left up to the business owners to decide whether they wanted to do more, Beaudoin said.

Nearly 20 businesses are ready to participate in this first event sponsored by the Promotional Committee of the the downtown group. It is free for area children.

It’s the first of what they hope will be monthly events for “the young at heart,” Jones said. Other events in the planning stage include finding the leprechaun, an Easter hunt and a spring fling.
