RAYMOND, Maine (AP) — A Maine man who developed a lethal infection after being paralyzed in a fight in Kansas has died on his home soil.
The dying wish of 28-year-old Anthony Napoleone was to return to Maine. The fiance of U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree flew Napoleone home on his private jet in October, and Napoleone died Wednesday in hospice care.
Napoleone was stabbed in 2008 after intervening when he saw his sister being beaten by her boyfriend in Salina, Kan. The knife lodged in his spine, leaving him paralyzed, and his injury led to an incurable staph infection.
In Maine, he lived at a relative’s home in Raymond. His mother, Raylene Wright, tells the Portland Press Herald that was able to spend time with his children and stepchildren.
